The fine print
Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
forsunken.com is run by the Forsunken team ("we", "us"), the people making the game Forsunken. We're responsible for the personal information described on this page. You can reach us at crew@forsunken.com.
2. What we collect
If you join the wishlist
We store your email address, the date and time you joined, where on the site you joined from, which version of this policy you agreed to, and a random code that makes your unsubscribe link work. That is everything we keep about you.
When you visit
Like almost every website, the servers that run forsunken.com handle some technical data with each request: your IP address, your browser type, the page you asked for and the time. Our hosting provider keeps these logs for a limited period to run and secure the service. Our own server holds IP addresses in memory for about ten minutes, to stop anyone flooding the sign-up form, and then forgets them.
What we don't do
We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising or social media trackers, and we don't fingerprint your device. Fonts and images are served from our own server, so visiting doesn't tell Google Fonts, or any other third party, that you were here.
One small thing stays in your browser: if you switch on the rain sound, the site remembers that choice in your browser's local storage (under the name forsunken:rain) so it can offer the sound again next time. It never leaves your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
3. How we use it
- To send you the news you asked for about Forsunken. We rely on your consent for this, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.
- To keep the site running and protect it from abuse. We rely on our legitimate interest in a site that works and stays secure.
We will never use your address for anything unrelated to Forsunken.
5. Where it's stored
The site and the wishlist database run on Railway's infrastructure, in a data centre in the Netherlands. Our providers may also process data in other countries, including the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers offer for international transfers.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete it, or we stop running the wishlist, whichever comes first. Unsubscribing deletes your address from our database straight away. Hosting logs are kept only as long as our provider needs them.
7. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to crew@forsunken.com and we'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (the UK, the EU and California, among others), these are your rights in law, and you can also complain to your local data protection authority. Using these rights will never count against you.
8. Children
The wishlist is for people aged 16 and over. If you think someone younger has signed up, tell us and we'll delete their address.
9. The voice demo
On the home page you can choose to say "FIRE" out loud. This uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, and it only listens after you press the button. Your browser's maker may process the audio to recognise the word (Chrome, for example, sends it to Google). We never receive your audio or what you said: the page only checks, in your browser, whether you said "fire".
10. Security
The site is only served over HTTPS. Wishlist addresses live in a password-protected database that only the Forsunken team can access, and the sign-up form is rate limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum, so there is very little to lose.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email address, we'll tell wishlist members by email before it takes effect.
12. Contact
